December 2007 Archives
Just a quick one.
1. Merry Christmas to one and all.
2. I decided to start reading "lead like Jesus", and so far it's pretty good (the blurb, that is).
That's it.
Another one soon hopefully.
I'm very aware that I haven't written an entry on this blog since the last MLS gathering a couple of weeks back.
Once again, this is because there was so much to take in, and I figured that I'd take some time to process it all when I got home, forgetting that I would be 2 days behind on work & family commitments after MLS, and therefore most of the training material is still stuck in my brain, awaiting unpacking.
I promise to get something written up here about the gathering ASAP, but for now, I need advice on a different issue.
I have to choose my next book assignment, and I've narrowed it down to "Lead Like Jesus" or "7 habits of Highly Effective People". Both look very compelling, and I'm quite into "models" that can be applied to leadship so the 7 habits is one that I'm keen to devour, but I'm also aware that I just read "good to great" which was very business oriented and so am wondering whether something more Christian-based would be more appropriate.
So, what would you recommend? As usual, answers via comment would be appreciated.
And while I think... A huge thankyou to those of you who regularly read this blog and offer wise council & feedback - it really is appreciated!!

Ok, so I finally finished the book "Good to Great" and now I have to write a 500 word (roughly) review type thing of what I've learned.Once again, you can click the extended link at the bottom of this post to read the proper assignment, but if you can't be bothered, here's a really brief overview...
To create a thriving business, you need to check yourself out, making sure that you're taking responsibility for the ups and downs of the company, you need to make sure that you have the right people on-board that will be motivated and fully committed to the overall vision. You then need to be realistic about where the company already is and what it will take to move forward. Once you've done that, you need to consider what it is that you're passionate about, what you can be best in the world at doing, and what one thing is gonna create the best results, and every decision from that point on needs to be checked against those 3 points, and scrapped if they don't fit. And remember, it's the accumulation of small steps that brings a company to its breakthrough potential.
And that's it. Simple huh?
Right, onto the next book....
