December 2009 Archives
Well yesterday not much change. Last night it rained and this morning too, so will somebody up there just send a bit more rain to wash away the last of the snow and ice and I will be able to go to my favourite Tea Shop in the village for Tea and a mince pie and to say hello to all my friends there.
Task today prepare and par cook about four pounds of parsnips to take to friends christmas Lunch for 14 tomorrow
Happy Christmas Eve to you all xxxx
Well weather about the same as yesterday snow melted a bit and froze again so still sheet ice outside, one of neighbours took a big bucket of ashes from a few days of my open fire and has scattered it down the pavement, ashes and little bits of coal she said helps a lot. Trouble is I am the only one at the moment in the square with an open fire. Temperatures are going down to -6 tonight so not holding out much hope of getting out tomorrow.
Still has been a nice day, friend in the area popped in with Fish and Chips for lunch so I had nice chat and lots of cups of tea after, toasting toes by the fire.
Have brought up a flask of cocoa to have in bed later, cosy or what!!!!
Byeee Janis
Well had sprinkle more of snow last night, this afternoon it rained a bit which melted some of the snow that has now frozen to thick ice on the pavements. Is it the snow or Christmas that makes things go wrong? Poor next door neighbours bolier had to be replaced today, my mirowave has stopped turning and daughter and son in laws telly given up too!!!
What I am now wondering is if I will be able to get out of this house to have Christmas with my friends, I live in square so you cant drive up to front door and all the paths are several inches of ice. Could I ask police helicopter to air lift me out on Christmas Day, silly me of course I can hitch a lift on Santa's sleigh on Christmas eve, don't worry not been at the Sherry don't drink.
Christmas tip make sure your plastic pot which Christmas Tree in has not got a split, mine must have as water leaked over the tray in was standing on on to my light oak sideboard, top is Ok as had years of beeswax polish but dribbles down side have stained it. On to internet to check out what to do.
Bye Janis
Well no more snow overnight, what was snow yesterday on the pavements is now about 4 inches of solid ice. So another cosy day in with fire going and muffins to toast by it. The poor pigeons were doing a trapeze act this morning, the only lovely crab apples on the tree were at the end of the branches that were really too thin to support their weight, was fun watching them sway around, most got some goodies in the end. One stray Rambler popped in for coffee on way home from start of walk, he forgot to check e mails and did not realise walk had been cancelled. Not so much for the snow in the countryside but the treacherous roads to get to start.
Booked tickets to go up to see daughter in Coventry in January, please can somebody see there no snow around then. My daughter and family have just moved, BT can't get their phone and internet running for weeks and I so miss seeing them all on Web Cam.
House is all snug and by keeping central heating on low 24hours and having Cavity Wall insulation the bolier hardy seems to fire up. Plus the only clothes that keep you warm in winter are pure wool ones, thats your tip for the day. Byee sweet dreams to all
Thought I would write blog about 'marooned in the house' due to first flakes of snow on Thursday evening onwards.. As I am writing this there is the most wonderful pink sunst over the snow covered roofs of the houses opposite. So saga started on waking Friday morning to at least six inches of snow as you can image going outside with the slightess bit of snow or ice is a no no on crutches, friend did offer to pull me round the village on childs toboggan but that might be slightly more embarrasing than I could cope with!!! Funny things happen!! although nice kind thing to do somebody clearing my front path but if I can't go out seems funny that I needed it doing. I never have worried about being alone although you all know I love company but its a peaceful time to reflect and relax when you have not got to think about going anywhere. The open fire is blazeing away the food stocks are full and I feel I am lucky to be safe and warm. After two days I thought I would feel bored but I am anything but that. Friends have popped round and chatted on e mail or phone. My only slight worry is that I can't walk to keep my hips mobile but I trot around the house as much as I can. So nice cosy Saturday evening in, only regret is that in my master plan of what supplies I needed earlier in the week to get through this snowy weather I forgot chocolate!!!!! my Saturday evening treat. Bye until tomorrow. Janis
Got on local Bus this morning, just as passing Village Pond car pulled out of Pub straight in front, driver managed to stop but three dear old ladies at front were thrown to the ground. Luckly I was sitting sizeways on higher seat so was fine ( last thing I want is a accident to my hips ). So called an Ambulance which took 35 mins to arrive terrible seeing ambulance station is just down road. So three ladies were taken off to hospital one with badly brusied face and feeling sick, another with bad back and shoulder pains last one with side pain. I do hope they are all OK. So lesson to us all, never EVER sit in front of Bus with no handrail in front of you, all rest of passengers OK. Not sure if somebody up there is looking after me or trying to pop me off.
I carried on my journey after another women and I plus bus driver stopped with the ladies until the ambulance came.
